About Us
Self Portrait Birmingham is a collective of photographers and artists based in Birmingham who are building a self portrait of the people of Birmingham initially through photography. The aim is to run self-portrait sessions throughout Birmingham.

Brian Homer is a writer, design consultant and photographer who was one of the organisers of the Handsworth Self Portrait sessions in 1979. He runs Homer Creative a Birmingham creative agency.

Graham Peet is a community artist who is currently Head of Publishing at the Public Gallery in West Bromwich. He runs photographic projects including “Exhibition in a Day” sessions at venues in the community and for the National Trust.

Pete James is Head of Photographs at Birmingham Library and has been instrumental in supporting and developing photography in the City and in building an internationally recognised photographic collection.

James Yarker is Director of Stan’s Cafe, a Birmingham based theatre and arts company that works both locally and internationally. Stan’s Cafe has run Self Portrait sessions at Arts Fest in Birmingham, as well as in schools, at parties and his own wedding.

Timm Sonnenschein is a documentary photographer and designer based in Birmingham. We threw him in at the deep end on October 4th and 5th but this was no problem as he has previously been thrown overboard from a lifeboat in the North Sea to capture images of a German lifeboat and its crew.

Emma Jo Tucker is a photographer and arts activist with a wide range of creative skills. She directs and acts and has created set designs and has done extensive arts work with children.
